The Boise State Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has developed a variety of programs specifically designed to support adjunct faculty. Adjuncts are encouraged to take advantage of any of these resources/opportunities. In addition to these services, adjuncts are always welcome to register or apply for any other CTL event or service. For a full list of CTL workshops please see “CTL Workshops and Events.”
This semester-long Learning Community is designed to address pedagogical questions that adjunct faculty may have and help them build a community of fellow educators. Members will attend cohort meetings, participate in CTL workshops and create a workshop summary. A stipend is provided upon successful completion of the AFLC. Applications are accepted at the beginning of both semesters.
Adjunct Discussion Series
The Adjunct Discussion Series provides opportunities for adjunct faculty to meet with each other and talk about teaching. Each 75 minute session will include directed discussion time as well as examples of how adjuncts can apply the ideas to their teaching. Adjuncts can register for one or all of the events in this series here.
- January 25, 5:15-6:30 PM: Strategies for Fair and Effective Grading
- March 2, 12:00-1:15 PM: Active Learning Strategies for Classes Large and Small

Each August, the CTL offers a New Adjunct Orientation for Adjuncts that start teaching in the fall semester. We also hold workshops/help sessions for returning adjuncts. The first half of the evening includes information about the student body at Boise State while the second half is in a workshop format, covering just-in-time teaching best practices and tips. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages are provided as well as an opportunity for casual conversation and networking with your colleagues.
Boise State University, the College of Western Idaho, and Northwest Nazarene University are partnering to present the Treasure Valley Adjunct Conference (TVAC). The conference will take place on May 15, 2017 from 8:30 AM – 1 PM on the campus of Boise State University. The coordinators of the event invite adjunct faculty from across the Treasure Valley to submit a proposal for this peer-reviewed conference spotlighting adjunct faculty. We seek proposals that highlight the quality of adjunct faculty scholarship and use of innovative teaching practices. Click on the link above for more information and to submit a proposal.
Each month, the CTL sends out an e-newsletter describing upcoming events, workshops, and other opportunities useful for adjunct faculty. If you are not receiving the newsletter and would like to, please send an email to email@example.com. Find an archive of our past newsletters through this link.
