This summer Instructional Design and Educational Assessment (IDEA Shop) will hold a 3-day summer institute focused on creative pedagogical strategies that leverage the power of mobile devices to enhance teaching and learning. Areas of exploration will include increasing student engagement, facilitating communication, expanding the borders of the learning environment, and improving productivity. The institute will run during the hours of 9:00am – 4:00pm on May 15, 16, 17 – 2019. Participants are expected to attend all three days of the institute.
Participants in the institute will each receive an iPad to use for as long as they are employed at Boise State University. Because the number of seats is limited, interested participants need to complete a brief application form (see links below). Both full-time and adjunct faculty may apply. Note: Adjuncts must have been teaching at Boise State for at least two semesters, and must be scheduled to teach during the 2019-2020 academic year. To apply, you need not have prior experience with mobile devices. You may also be eligible to participate if you already own an iPad or similar mobile device (see application for more information).
Applications will be reviewed by a committee, with the goal of selecting a heterogeneous, multi-disciplinary cohort of faculty representing a broad range of technology users, from novices to experts. The committee will accept a broad range of interests in mobile devices, (for example, from a desire to be exposed to the basics of using mobile devices for teaching and learning to interest in implementing a project that explores how a mobile-aware curriculum design can enhance learning in innovative ways).
This summer institute is an extension of the exploration of the implications of mobile environments on effective teaching and learning practices that began under Boise State’s 2-year Mobile Learning Initiative. It is designed to promote the first goal of Boise State’s Focus of Effectiveness strategic plan, “Create a signature, high-quality educational experience for all students” by providing faculty development around innovative pedagogy that creates engaging learning environments.
